Losing someone you love is never easy. When my husband and his brother lost their uncle, I knew that I had to step in to help with the funeral planning. Their uncle had raised them since they were toddlers, and he was the only father they ever knew. They were both devastated, so I told them I would handle the arrangements, knowing they both trusted my judgment. The service was beautiful, and they both received a lot of peace from it. About a month later, I asked them to look at some monuments in Morris County NJ.
I had made all the immediate arrangements such as the casket, the flowers, and the obituary. I knew that they were the ones who had to select the monument for his graveside though. Since this was not something that had to be done immediately, I gave them some time to come to terms with what had happened. I told them both that I wanted them to decide on what monument they wanted to honor the man they considered their father. They were both at a good place at this time, so they were able to look at the website that I had shown them with peace.
I am so happy that I saved this part for them, and I know that they were really appreciative of it too. They actually had a good time together, reminiscing about their uncle, as they picked out the perfect monument for him. The website that they used had a large variety of everything on it. They wanted to honor their uncle for his faith, but they also wanted to show his easy-going side too. They were able to pick out the perfect way to honor him on a beautiful monument. When we went to the cemetery to see it, we all had tears in our eyes!
